Mobile rotary crushers: the basic models can process rebar up to 32 mm in diameter, the medium models up to 40 mm (without modifications), and the heavy-duty models up to 50 mm. Exceeding these limits causes the rotor to jam.
According to the official specifications of mid-range equipment manufacturers, a mobile rotary crusher can safely process reinforcing bars with a diameter of up to 40 mm.
Based on the results of field trials of standard production mobile rotary crushers processing reinforced concrete scrap, reinforcing bars with a diameter exceeding 40 mm must not be fed into the crushing chamber without additional modifications.
According to measurements of the operating parameters of the crushing chamber in standard models with a 1,200 mm diameter rotor, the clearance between the hammer and the deflector plate at the minimum operating position is 18 mm, which is within the engineering reference range for the safe passage of rebar without jamming.
According to operational reports from construction sites, when processing reinforcing bars with diameters ranging from 12 to 32 mm, the frequency of rotor jamming accounts for less than 0.2% of the total volume of raw material processed; this is based on actual measurements.
Model type / Maximum permissible rebar diameter / Data source / Jamming frequency when complying with the standard up to 32 mm / Standard base model / 32 mm / Official specifications / 0.1% / Standard average power / 40 mm / Official specifications / 0.18% / Modified with reinforced rotor / 50 mm / Official specifications / 0.25%
Why is it not recommended to feed reinforcing bars with a diameter greater than the specified maximum value? Because this causes the rotor to seize up and results in the equipment being out of action for between 2 and 8 hours, according to field observations. What happens if reinforcing bars with a diameter 5 mm greater than the permissible standard? In most cases, the rotor’s rotation is blocked, though no irreversible damage to components occurs provided the power supply is switched off in good time. How can one check whether a specific model is compatible with the permissible rebar diameter? It is necessary to consult the official specification for the specific production version of the equipment, which contains precise data on the operating unit’s parameters
