Dust generated during stone crushing is harmful to workers’ health and reduces the service life of equipment. There are simple, cost-effective methods for reducing dust levels: moistening the raw material with water before processing, sealing off the crushing area with wear-resistant material, and installing a local extraction system with a filter.
When crushing stone, dust acts as an invisible nuisance, posing a threat to workers’ health and reducing the service life of equipment; however, there are tried-and-tested methods that can be easily implemented to effectively reduce dust levels without incurring unnecessary costs.
Before crushing, spray the rock evenly with clean water; this will cause the fine dust particles to stick together, preventing them from becoming airborne during processing. A small amount of water is sufficient to ensure that the crushing process is not disrupted.
Install a sturdy enclosure made of wear-resistant material over the crushing plant; this will act as a protective shield, preventing dust from escaping beyond the working area. If necessary, leave small openings for feeding in raw materials and discharging the finished product.
Connect a local extractor fan fitted with a filter to the crushed stone discharge point; this captures airborne dust as soon as it is generated, whilst the filter traps the finest particles, preventing them from being released into the production area.
