The remote project in Indonesia has become a fully-fledged partner in the development of local infrastructure; a stable power supply and uninterrupted delivery of spare parts are the two key pillars ensuring the continuous, fault-free operation of the entire complex without downtime, even in remote regions of the country characterised by a tropical environment.
Power supply at the project’s remote sites in Indonesia is organised to take account of the tropical climate and energy efficiency requirements: hybrid systems comprising solar panels and backup generators fuelled by environmentally friendly fuel are used; these are adapted to cope with sudden changes in cloud cover and seasonal rains, whilst automated controls maintain a stable voltage without the surges that could damage sensitive equipment. Each facility has its own independent power supply, eliminating the risk of a mass power cut in the event of faults in local public grids, whilst constant real-time monitoring enables faults to be identified and rectified at an early stage.
The spare parts supply chain has been designed to take into account the specific characteristics of Indonesia’s transport infrastructure, which includes island territories and remote areas: three regional warehouses have been established, stocked with the most in-demand components and located at points with maximum transport accessibility, which reduces delivery times to the site to 48 hours in standard circumstances. For rare and specialised spare parts, a pre-agreed priority international delivery scheme is in place from key manufacturing hubs, and the entire product range is tracked via a unified digital system, eliminating errors in order processing and the loss of cargo en route.
To prevent malfunctions, a double stock of critical spare parts and backup power supplies are provided, which are activated automatically should any parameters deviate from the norm, whilst regular preventive inspections are carried out according to an individual schedule, taking into account the operating conditions of each specific facility. The entire project team has undergone specialised training in working in tropical conditions, and a 24-hour on-call service ensures a prompt response to any requests at any time of day or night, thereby maintaining the project’s efficiency at a consistently high level throughout its implementation.
