A crusher, as a hard-working aid to the mining and processing industries, does not experience a sudden drop in productivity by chance; but a clear sign of hidden faults within the working mechanism; timely and accurate diagnosis is key to quickly restoring efficient operation and preventing more serious breakdowns.
Before there is a noticeable drop in the volume of raw material processed, the crusher usually gives clear warning signs, including unusual creaking and vibration during operation, an increase in the processing time for each batch of raw material, and the production of output with an uneven particle size distribution. These subtle changes are easy to overlook during routine monitoring, but they form an important basis for the early diagnosis of faults.
Common causes include wear and tear on working parts such as blades and crushing plates, feed parameters for raw materials that do not meet the required specifications in terms of hardness and particle size, as well as malfunctions in the lubrication and cooling systems; each of these problems directly reduces processing efficiency and, if ignored, gradually leads to a complete shutdown of the equipment.
The first step in the diagnostic process is a visual inspection of the external working parts for signs of wear and damage, followed by measuring operating parameters such as motor load and housing temperature, and then checking the functionality of auxiliary systems; carrying out these steps in sequence allows the problem to be pinpointed in 90% cases without dismantling the entire mechanism.
Once the cause has been accurately identified, targeted measures must be taken: worn working parts must be replaced with original parts with the appropriate specifications; the raw material feed parameters must be adjusted to meet the equipment’s technical requirements; and a full service of the lubrication system must be carried out; These actions usually restore productivity to the standard level in the shortest possible time.
To prevent a further drop in performance, a regular schedule of routine inspections and maintenance should be introduced, the characteristics of the raw materials entering the processing plant should be strictly monitored, and a log of the equipment’s operating parameters should be kept to identify any deviations in good time; such systematic preventative maintenance reduces the risk of sudden breakdowns by more than 70% and extends the service life of the crusher.
