Transporting a mobile crusher: a checklist

The checklist for transporting a mobile crusher includes preparing the equipment, selecting the trailer and obtaining the necessary permits, loading and securing the equipment correctly, monitoring the journey, and carrying out a post-unloading inspection to ensure the equipment remains in good condition.

Transporting a mobile crusher is a critical process; the proper organisation of this process is essential to ensuring the safety of this expensive equipment, road safety and the avoidance of delays at construction or mining sites. This checklist outlines all the key stages to prevent errors and oversights during transport.

Preparing the equipment prior to dispatch

Before loading, the mobile crusher undergoes a full inspection: all protruding parts are secured with special clamps, the hydraulic lines are depressurised to zero, and any remaining raw material is completely removed from the feed chamber. The integrity of the undercarriage and the fastenings of the protective casings are also checked to rule out the risk of them becoming detached whilst the machine is in motion.

Choosing the right vehicle and obtaining the necessary permits

Given the crusher’s large dimensions and weight, a low-loader trailer with the appropriate load-carrying capacity is required; furthermore, permits for the transport of oversized and heavy goods must be obtained in advance for carriage on public roads. Accompanying documents are also drawn up, detailing the equipment’s specifications and diagrams showing how it is secured to the low-loader.

Loading and secure fastening onto a vehicle

Loading must only be carried out on a level, solid surface using certified slings and ropes, with the crusher positioned strictly along the central axis of the trawl to ensure even weight distribution. Once installed, at least four fixing points must be used around the perimeter, and anti-slip pads must also be fitted beneath the equipment’s support elements.

Monitoring whilst moving and when stopped along the route

The driver must maintain a speed of no more than 60 km/h on straight stretches of road and no more than 30 km/h on bends and sections with poor road surfaces, and must stop every 100 km to carry out a visual inspection of the integrity of the fastenings. If the tension of the cables needs to be adjusted, work must only be carried out on level ground with the hazard warning lights switched on.

Receipt and inspection of equipment after unloading

Upon arrival at the final destination, all fastenings are first removed, after which a visual inspection is carried out on the crusher’s body, undercarriage and working components to check for mechanical damage. The hydraulic system and the mechanisms for securing the working parts are then checked to ensure that the equipment can be put into operation immediately after unloading without the need for further repairs.
